DOVER, Del. - Within the Wesley College Athletic Department, it has always been important for Wolverine student-athletes to give back to the community. On Thursday morning, members of the Wesley College Football team, Softball team, and Women's Lacrosse team did just that, volunteering their time to read to Fairview Elementary School students.
The student-athletes visited with the elementary school students, giving them a well-received break from class and reading some of their favorite stories to them. The elementary school students were respectful and engaged, and thrilled that some of their heroes from the fields were spending time with them.
The event was coordinated by Fairview Elementary School Guidance Counselor Jennifer Plews. Mrs. Plews is the wife of Wesley College Football Assistant Coach Shawn Plews. The Wolverines have partnered with Fairview Elementary for volunteer projects frequently.
Both the students and the student-athletes seemed to have a great time during the morning reading session, and some of the student-athletes even hung around after the reading sessions for a quick autograph or two.
"It was a great time interacting with the Fairview students," said Wesley Softball senior Lily Engel. "They are great listeners and were engaged. And it's always fun being with other Wesley student-athletes."
