DOVER, Del. – Senior outfielder Trey Mears and sophomore utility player Ashley Royer were named Wesley Wolverines of the Week for the week of Feb. 20-26.
Mears recorded a .737 average (14-for-19), 15 RBIs, 11 stolen bases, and nine runs scored in a 4-1 week for the Wolverines. Mears hit four doubles and posted an on-base percentage of .750 and a slugging percentage of .947. He set Wesley's single-game record for most RBIs in a single game when he drove in nine runs against Valley Forge on Thursday. Mears also hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning to propel Wesley over No. 18 ranked Oswego State on Sunday.
Royer led the Wolverines to a pair of doubleheader sweeps over the weekend. Royer hit .769 (10-for-13) with a home run, 13 RBIs, three doubles, and two triples in sweeps over Lincoln (Pa.) and Swarthmore this past weekend. Royer has registered at least one hit and one RBI in all four games, and posted a slugging percentage of 1.538. Royer leads the CAC in batting average (.769), runs batted in (13), slugging percentage (1.538), and triples (2).
The Wesley baseball team will be back in action this weekend when they host the St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) Bears in a three-game series. The series starts with a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 12 p.m.
The Wesley softball team will travel to Myrtle Beach, S.C. over spring break to compete in the week-long Fast Pitch Dreams Spring Classic. Wesley will open the tournament on Mon., March 6 with a doubleheader against Medaille and Ursinus starting at 9:30 a.m.
