Dover, Del. - The Wesley College athletic department announced their Male and Female Athlete of the Year award winners Tuesday morning via a virtual video. These two athletes demonstrate what being a Wolverine is truly about.
Senior guard Brain Cameron from the Men's Basketball team was named Male Athlete of the Year while Junior Emily Caldarelli was named the Female Athlete of the year.
Caldarelli is a physical education major here at Wesley with a 3.95 GPA and the 2019 Team Captain for the Women's Soccer program. This past season she finished with 9 goals, 9 assists and 27 points. She was first in the Atlantic East (AEC) in assists, 2nd in points, and 3rd in goals. She is a 2x AEC player of the week and made the All-AEC first team. Caldarelli was named the 2019 Women's Soccer Most Valuable Player and the most outstanding offensive player. In only two seasons at Wesley, she now holds the record for Most Assists in a career (25).
Cameron finished his basketball career at Wesley as the AEC Player of the Year (for the second consecutive season),and earned AEC Player of the Week on six occasions this past season. He was named the United States Basketball Writers Association DIII Player of the Week in early February. He was named to the Top 50 Watch List for the Bevo Francis Small Basketball Player of the Year. Cameron earned 2nd Team All-American by D3Hoops.co, 1st Team All-Atlantic Region by D3Hoops.com and 1st Team All-American by That D3 Guy.
He became the third player in Wesley College Basketball program history to be named to the NABC/Reese's D3 All-Star Game (played annually at the Final Four) and became the second player in program history to eclipse the prestigious 2,000 career point plateau. He closed out his career as the program's All-Time leading scorer with 2,399 career points, fourth in program history for career rebounds as a 6'1 guard, and second in program history for career assists. He was also named to the1st Team All-District (Atlantic Region) by the NABC for the second consecutive season.
