Jim & Shirley Wentworth Gymnasium
Jim & Shirley Wentworth Gymnasium is the host of Wesley College men's and women's basketball, as well as volleyball.
With a capacity of just 350, the fans are right on top of the action, giving the Wolverines a unique home court advantage. The Wesley men's basketball is 20-1 (.952) over the past two years on their home floor, with the women posting similar success at 19-6 (.760). The volleyball team has posted a winning percentage 300 points better at home than on the road during that time, as well.
In the summer of 2008, the floor was renovated to better accomodate Wesley's volleyball program.
The gymnasium bears the name of former Wesley College men's basketball coach Jim Wentworth and his late wife Shirley for their contributions to the college. The dedication ceremony took place on December 2, 1992.
Jim was the head men's basketball coach for 40 years. After coaching the final 25 years of Wesley's junior college existence, he guided the first 15 Division III squads as well. He racked up 502 wins over his entire 40 years.
The college's Shirley Wentworth Award is named after his wife and recognizes outstanding sportsmanship, work ethic, character, courage and commitment in a student-athlete. It dedicates the tireless devotion to Wesley College that Shirley displayed.
Both James and Shirley are members of the Wesley College Athletics Hall of Fame.
The gymnasium is also utilized for instruction, recreation, intramurals and special events.
