DOVER, Del. – York (Pa.) hit four home runs and defeated the Wesley College baseball team, 7-3 on Friday afternoon at Bob Reed Field. The loss drops the Wolverines to 13-6 overall and 3-4 in the Capital Athletic Conference.
A solo homerun by the Spartans in the first gave York (Pa.) a 1-0 lead but Wesley was able to take the lead with a two-run third. Rob Benedict and John Carlson reached to lead off the inning and pulled off a double steal to put two runners in scoring position. Sam Farnell then hit a grounder that the shortstop mishandled to score Benedict from third. After a flyout, Farnell was caught stealing second but Carlson was able to score on the play.
The Spartans added a run apiece in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to retake a 4-2 advantage but the Wolverines cut the lead in half with an RBI single by Bryan Reshetar in the bottom of the sixth.
A three-run eighth by York (6-11, 3-4 CAC) gave the Spartans a 7-3 lead and Wesley was unable to do any further damage.
DJ Keckler (4-2) got the loss despite striking out a career-high ten Spartans. He allowed seven runs on ten hits in eight innings.
Tommy Moran (3-1) earned the victory for the Spartans allowing three runs on nine hits in 7.2 innings of work. Justin Cohen hit a pair of home runs and drove in four.
Tomorrow's doubleheader featuring the same two teams has been pushed up to 11 am with the anticipation of rain in the Dover area.
