Stevenson, Md-Wesley rebounded today to take the final game of their conference series at Stevenson 6-5. The win improves Wesley's conference record to 5-7 and moves them into the thick of a six team scramble for second place in the CAC race.
Zach Stewart pitched 7 2/3 innings of 6 hit ball to earn the win. Rich Lober recorded a 4 out save and stranded the tying run on third base in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Stevenson jumped on top 2-0 in the home first on a double by Justin Anderson; catcher Zac Stavish followed with a 2 run homer to left. The Wolverines took the lead for good in their half of the third inning. Matt Robles the rally with a 10 pitch walk. Jon Carlson plated him with a single, Sam Farnell singled, Geoff Kimmel scored Carlson with another single and Morgan Rupp contributed the fourth consecutive hit of the inning before Steve Perone scored Farnell with a sac fly.
Wesley added another three runs in the sixth - their rally again featured four consecutive hits in the inning. With two outs, Rob Benedict singled and Carlson drove in Robles with another single. Farnell drove in Benedit with a single and Carlson scored on a Kimmel double into the left field corner.
Stevenson added single runs in the sixth and eighth to trail 6-4 starting the ninth inning. Heath Johnson reached on a fielding error and scored on Thomas Goulian's double to deep right center. Lober retired Josh Morris to preserve the win.
The Wolverines rerturn to action this Tuesday April 3 with a 3:30 game against nationally ranked Rowan. Their week concludes with a big conference series with Mary Washington - single game Friday and a double header on Saturday.
