Baseball Falls To Mary Washington in the 9th

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Wesley College's baseball team dropped a 1-0 decision at Capital Athletic Conference rival Mary Washington on Friday afternoon at Dickinson Stadium.  The Wolverines fall to 13-7 overall and 4-3 in the CAC while the Eagles improve to 15-9 on the year and 6-1 in league play.

Freshman Eric Willey engaged in a pitchers duel with Mary Washington senior Michael Straub before the Eagles plated a runner with two outs in their final at bat.  Willey finishd the day allowing an eaned run on eight hits while fanning three. Straub allowed three hits in nine innings of work.

The Wolverines best chance to score came in the third inning when Trevor Mears started the frame with a leadoff single and Matt Robles was then hit by a pitch to put a pair of runners on.  Cory Smith sacrificed them over with a bunt by Straub was able to escape the jam unscathed. Wesley also put runners in scoring position during the sixth and ninth innings.

Smith and Morgan Rupp also collected base hits on the day.

Mary Washington hosts Wesley on Saturday, March 30, in a 1 pm doubleheader.
