Baseball Edged Twice By #4 Salisbury

SALISBURY, Md. - The Wesley College baseball team dropped a pair of nail-biters at No. 4 Salisbury University on Saturday afternoon at SU Baseball Field. With a 3-1 loss in the opener followed by a 2-1 defeat in game two, the Wolverines fall to 15-10 overall and 5-6 in the Capital Athletic Conference.

An RBI single by Jon Carlson in the third inning of game one gave Wesley a 1-0 lead. Sam Farnell scored on the play as he led off the inning with a walk and advanced to third on a single by Conner Gobright followed by a ground ball off the bat of Matt Robles.

Jordan Lozzi held the fourth-ranked Sea Gulls scoreless through five innings but SU managed to score three runs on four hits off Lozzi in the sixth. Wesley threatened in the seventh with back-to-back two-out singles by Gobright and Robles but were unable to capitalize.

Carlson had three hits and Gobright added two in the opener but the Wolverines only got one other hit which came from Robles.

Lozzi received his first loss of the year, allowing just two earned runs in the complete game.

Game two saw Salisbury take a 1-0 lead before the Wolverines tied it in the fifth on a RBI double by Farnell which scored Corey Jefferson who led off the frame with a double.

Once again Salisbury scored the game-winner in its final at bat, a home run by Quinn Griffith to lead off the inning.

Freshman Rob Diamond (2-3) allowed just two earned runs on six hits while fanning three in his first career complete game.

Wesley and Salisbury (20-5, 8-3 CAC) will finish the series on Sunday, April 7 at 1 pm at the Wolverines' Bob Reed Field.
