DOVER, Del. – Wesley College's baseball team fell to No. 4 Salisbury University, 5-1, on Sunday afternoon at Bob Reed Field. The Wolverines fall to 15-11 overall and 5-7 in the CAC while the Sea Gulls improve to 21-5 on the year and 9-3 in league play.
Salisbury took a 2-0 lead after the first inning before getting two unearned runs off Eric Willey in the fourth to take a four run lead. The Sea Gulls tacked on another in the fifth and maintained the 5-0 lead until the bottom of the ninth.
Jon Carlson started a ninth inning rally with a one out double down the left field line before advancing to third on a groundout by Trevor Mears. Steve Perone then drove in Carlson with a single to center field but SU starting pitcher Dan Fein got the final out to seal the victory.
Willey pitched eight innings in the loss for the Wolverines, allowing just three earned runs on seven hits. Andrew Cooper went the ninth inning and allowed just one hit.
Fein threw all nine innings for the Sea Gulls, allowing one run on five hits while striking out seven. Evan Graci went 4-for-5 with two RBIs.
The Wolverines host Arcadia on Tuesday, April 9 at 3:30 pm.
