WINCHESTER, Va. – Wesley College's baseball team fell at No. 25 Shenandoah University, 21-4, on Thursday afternoon at Bridgeforth Field. The Wolverines fall to 16-12 on the year while the Hornets improve to 20-8.
Shenandoah put a three spot on the board in the first inning but Wesley came back with a run in the third. Jon Carlson started the rally with a two-out single before scoring on a double to the right centerfield gap by Cory Smith.
Jordan Lozzi pitched the first four innings and allowed just the three runs in the first but the Hornets tallied 13 runs over the next three innings off relievers Andrew Cooper and Scott Dougherty. That was not before the Wolverines tacked on another run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Carlson. Sam Farnell scored on the long fly ball after singling to lead off the inning, followed by another single by Matt Robles.
Farnell hit a two-run homer in the ninth to score Conner Gobright who had walked just prior.
Michael Paul and Dan Powers both hit home runs for SU while seven Hornets had multi-hit days.
The Wolverines host a three-game CAC series against St. Mary's this weekend, starting with a 1 pm doubleheader on Saturday, April 13. On Sunday, the same two teams will meet at 1 pm with Senior Day presentations just prior to first pitch.
