Rupp Delivers Walk-Off Single vs. Richard Stockton

WILMINGTON, Del. – Morgan Rupp hit a walk-off bloop single to centerfield to give the Wesley College baseball team a 8-7 victory over Richard Stockton on Tuesday night at Frawley Stadium.  Both teams move to 20-15 on the year and the Wolverines clinch at least a .500 season with the victory.

Rupp's game-winning RBI scored Cory Smith, who had doubled to lead off the inning.  Smith got to third on Trevor Mears' sac bunt and the bases were then loaded after Corey Jefferson was intentionally walked and Steve Perone was hit by a pitch.

Rupp finished 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs on the day, while Jefferson collected three hits, as Wesley recorded seven base knocks on the day.

The Wolverines jumped in front, 3-0 after the first inning as Jefferson, Perone and Rupp tallied back-to-back-to-back RBI singles. Zach Stuart kept Wesley in front as he allowed just two earned runs through the first six innings, but unfortunately got the no-decision.

Richard Stockton got a pair of runs in the third to cut Wesley's lead to 3-2, but the Wolverines got one back on a sacrifice fly by Perone in their half of the inning. Smith drove in Matt Robles with a sacrifice fly in the fourth, giving Wesley back a three-run lead.

The Ospreys once again cut the deficit to a single run with two unearned runs in the fifth but an RBI groundout by Sam Farnell, and another sacrifice fly, this time by Matt Domian extended the lead to 7-4 after five innings.

Stuart held the Ospreys scoreless in the sixth, but Richard Stockton got a pair of unearned runs off Andrew Cooper in the eighth, cutting the deficit to one. Wesley was unable to score in the eighth, and prior to the start of the ninth, the sprinklers in the infield interrupted the game, and the warmup of Wolverines closer Rich Lober for approximately ten minutes.

Once the sprinklers turned off, the Ospreys managed to tie the score on a pair of hits, but Lober (3-1) received the victory as Wesley picked up its 20th win.

The Wolverines return to action on Saturday, April 27 when they travel to Methodist for a 1 pm doubleheader.
