DOVER, Del. – Wesley College's baseball team fell to No. 15 Salisbury University, 8-1, on Thursday afternoon at Bob Reed Field. The Wolverines now stand at 13-9 overall and 8-3 in the Capital Athletic Conference while the Sea Gulls move to 17-6 on the year and 9-4 in league play.
Salisbury starting pitcher Connor Shockley threw seven innings and allowed just one run on seven hits and struck out five to earn the victory.
Cody Dmiterchik collected a pair of base hits for the Wolverines and drove in the team's only run in the seventh inning.
Salisbury led at one point, 6-0, tallying two runs in the second and seventh and single runs in the third and sixth. Wesley attempted to rally in the seventh but could only muster one run. Matt Domian singled off the pitcher to start the inning and then stole second base. Joe Hummel then singled, advancing Domian to third before Dmiterchik's RBI single up the middle.
Zach Stuart took the loss for Wesley, allowing four earned runs on eight hits in 7.0 innings, fanning four. Seth Penniston pitched the final two innings, allowing two unearned runs on two hits while striking out two.
The Wolverines travel to York (Pa.) on April 5 for a 12 pm CAC doubleheader.
