FROSTBURG, MD – The Wesley College baseball team dropped a pair of games at Frostburg State, 10-3/8-6, in a Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader at Bob Wells Field Saturday afternoon.
Wesley moves to 15-13 overall and 9-7 in the CAC while Frostburg improves to 22-8 overall and 11-5 in league play.
In game one, the Bobcats struck first, plating seven runs in the bottom of the second inning. In the top of the third, the Wolverines got three runs back when Adam Darling and Ron Morello laced RBI singles. FSU would go on to add insurance runs in the fifth and seventh innings, taking the opener, 10-3.
In game two, the Bobcats snagged another early lead, scoring four times in the bottom of the first when Kam Stewart connected for a grand slam to left field. Frostburg would add three more runs before Wesley scored four in the top of the sixth. Trevor Mears connected on an RBI double to plate Smith who reached on an error earlier in the inning. Matt Domian then hit a sac fly to right to plate Mears. Stan Zulkowski hit an RBI double to right center to cap the Wolverine rally.
Wesley plated two more runs in the top of the ninth when Eric Speidel singled up the middle. Eric Marrero took the loss allowing six earned runs on five hits in three innings pitched. Speidel led all hitters in game two, going 3-for-4 with two RBI's and one base on balls. Morello and Mears each had multi-hit games, with Mears swiping his 14th bag of the season.
The Wolverines return to action when they travel to Salisbury April 15th for the first round of the CAC tournament. First pitch is set to be thrown at 3:30 p.m.
