YORK, Pa. – The Wesley College baseball team has been picked to finish sixth in the Capital Athletic Conference as voted on by the league's ten head coaches in a Preseason Poll which was released Thursday afternoon. Salisbury beat out Christopher Newport by one point to take the top spot in the poll followed by York, Frostburg State, Mary Washington and the Wolverines.
Following Wesley in seventh is St. Mary's, with the top six teams advancing to the CAC Playoffs in mid-April, Marymount, Penn State Harrisburg and Southern Virginia.
Junior Trevor Mears, an All-CAC outfielder last years, leads a large returning class which features eight returning starters around the diamond. Wesley also returns its top five hitters from last year, including infielders Eric Speidel and Cory Smith who also batted well over .300.
Junior Eric Willey should a very young pitching staff along with Connor Springsteen while Rob Mills leads the way out of the bullpen.
Baseball opens the season on Saturday, February 21 against Widener in a 12 pm doubleheader at Bob Reed Field.
