YORK, Pa. – The 2012 Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Year, former Wesley College shortstop Rob Benedict has been named to the CAC Silver Anniversary Team, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.
Entering its 25th year of varsity competition, the CAC selected a Silver Anniversary Team in 19 championship sports, primarily based on season-ending conference awards as voted by the conference coaches. Each Silver Anniversary Team will feature 25 former or current standouts.
A native of Drexel Hill, Pa., Benedict was a three-time All-CAC selection, earning First Team recognition in his junior and senior seasons. Benedict also earned Second Team honors in 2010 while being named First Team All-Region in both 2011 and 2012 by D3baseball.com and the American Baseball Coaches Association.
One of the fastest players ever to don the Navy & White, Benedict holds the school-record with 103 stolen bases while ranking third in both base hits (208) and runs scored (156) as well as fifth in games played (153), doubles (35) and triples. Benedict also ranks ninth in school-history in both batting average (.356) and RBIs (101).
In his final season with the Wolverines where he earned Player of the Year honors, Benedict led the squad with 57 runs scored and an impressive 43 stolen bases on 45 attempts. Benedict hit a career-high .373 for the year with 12 doubles and 29 RBIs while only committing eight errors defensively.
The Wolverines are set to open the 2015 season on Saturday, February 21 against Widener in a 12 pm doubleheader at Bob Reed Field.
