DOVER, Del. – In their final game of the 2015 season, the Wesley College Wolverines Baseball team defeated the Pride from Widener University, 8-6, on a sunny Sunday afternoon at Bob Reed Field. The Wolverines end the season with a record of 11-18 while the Pride falls to 20-13.
The Wolverines fell behind early in the first inning as Widener combined for two runs off of a lead-off double, a pair of walks and a single. The Wolverines were not going down without a fight and exploded in their half of the first. Five hits resulted in five Wesley tallies with a Matt Domian single scoring Eric Speidel and Tyler Hunter to get the Wolverines on the board. Both teams were scoreless until the fourth, when Widener was able to put another run on the board. Not to be outdone, Cory Smith lead-off with a double in the bottom of the fourth. Widener then walked three Wolverines to let Smith cross the plate. A wild pitch saw Connor Gobright score the final run of his career before Widener could get out of the inning. Keandre Jones rounded out the Wolverines scoring with a home run over the right field fence.
Widener tried to break through in the top of the eighth with two runs scoring but Brett McCulley came in in the top of the ninth to garner his first save of the year. Connor Springsteen (3-3) takes the win from the mound while Evan Dymond (1-1) takes the loss for the Pride.
Five Wolverines were featured in their final game of the season. Hunter scored the first run of the game. Smith had a double and one run. Domian had two hits, one run and one RBI. Gobright had three hits, two runs and two RBI's. While McCulley picked up the save.
