CHESTER, Pa. - The Wesley College Baseball team earned their fifth consecutive victory with a 7-1 win over the Widener University Pride in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday afternoon in Chester, Pa.
Eric Speidel went 2-for-3 with a pair of stolen bases while KeAndre Jones extended his hitting streak to 16 games. Ron Morello earned a pair of base knocks while Trevor Mears led the way with three RBI. Cody Simet went eight strong innings to earn the win, scattering seven hits and allowing just one run while striking out two. Alex Marrs finished the game coming in for a scoreless, hitless ninth.
Widener took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, but the Wolverines responded by manufacturing a score in the third. Cody Dmiterchik got on board with a single, moved to third on a Speidel double and came home on a sac fly by Jones to tie the game.
The 1-1 tie held until the top of the eighth inning when the Wesley offense finally started clicking. Mears provided the tie-breaking hit, cracking a two-run double down the left field line to make it 3-1. Christopher Seibert followed with an RBI groundout to make it 4-1.
Wesley added three more in the ninth to pad their lead. Mears drove in another run with a sac fly and Eric Speidel pulled off a rare steal of home. Two batters later Jones came in to score on a Widener error to make it 7-1.
Wesley improves to 14-12 on the season, earning their first five-game winning streak since a six-game win streak in March of 2014.
