HARRISBURG, Pa. - The Wesley College Baseball team tied their longest winning streak in the past three seasons, earning their sixth consecutive victory with an 8-3 win over Capital Athletic Conference foe Penn State Harrisburg on Wednesday.
Andrew Weaver set the tone for the Wolverines, pitching seven strong innings allowing just two runs on three hits while striking out five. Sam Meck and Eric Willey close out the game tossing an inning each without allowing an earned run. KeAndre Jones, Mike Calvarese and Trey Mears had two hits apiece, while Joe Hummel turned in three RBI for the Wolverines.
Wesley jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, with Jones and Calvarese each ripping an RBI single and Morello driving in a run on a fielder's choice. The Wolverines sent eight batters to the plate in the big inning to open the game. The Navy and White added a run in the third on a Hummel RBI groundout to make it 4-0.
Penn State Harrisburg cut the lead in half with two runs in the bottom of the fourth, but Ron Morello made it 5-2 with an RBI double in the fifth that drove in Calvarese.
The Nittany Lions scored one in the eighth inning on a Wesley error, but the Wolverines sealed the victory with three runs in the top of the ninth. Calvarese drove in a run on an RBI ground out and Joe Hummel came through with a clutch bases-loaded double to drive in two more and give the Wolverines a large even cushion to close out the game.
Wesley is now 15-12 on the season with an 8-5 mark in the conference. The squad will look to continue their winning ways when they host Marymount for a pair of CAC games on Saturday, April 9.
