Wolverines Head to Salisbury for CAC Tournament First Round

DOVER, Del. - After putting together their best season since 2013, the Wesley College Baseball team will head to Salisbury on Tuesday for the opening round of the Capital Athletic Conference on Tuesday, April 19.

Wesley finished the season with a 19-15 mark and a 11-7 record in conference play to lock up the fourth seed and their ninth consecutive trip to the CAC playoffs. Since joining the conference in 2008, Wesley has never missed the conference tournament.

The Wesley offense has been solid all season, averaging nearly eight runs scored per game. Chris Seibert has been a monster in the middle of the order, batting .383 on the year with a team-high 40 RBI. The second baseman has also mashed seven home runs this season. Ron Morello leads the team in batting average with a .398 clip while KeAndre Jones (.368), Eric Speidel (.366), Trey Mears (.331), and Mike Calvarese (.326) are all batting above .300 on the year. The Wolverines' lineup should continue to produce big numbers in the postseason as well.

The pitching staff was the Wolverines' soft spot for some of the year, but came on during conference play led by Sam Meck, Cody Simet, and Eric Willey. Each of the three pitchers have recorded five wins on the season.

Meck has earned four conference wins on the season, including one over Salisbury coming out of the bullpen. The Wolverines have won each of his last three starts. Simet has earned three conference wins this season including a crucial 5-4 victory over Marymount where the sophomore tossed four innings of scoreless relief, allowing just one hit as the Wolverines took the win in 11 innings. Willey has tossed gone out and thrown two complete-game wins in his last two starts. The senior allowed just three runs against Marymount as the Wolverines won 4-3 and then threw a complete-game shutout against No. 16 Christopher Newport last weekend.

Andrew Weaver has been the team's best arm out of the bullpen, making six of his 10 appearances in relief. In 38 innings, Weaver has allowed just 12 earned runs and has recorded a team-high three saves on the year. His 2.84 ERA is the lowest on the roster.

The Wolverines earned the fourth seed in the CAC Tournament and will head down Route 13 on Tuesday afternoon to take on third-seeded Salisbury. The Sea Gulls split the season series with Wesley, outslugging the Navy and White 22-13 in their first meeting, but Wesley took down the second rendezvous 10-9.

With a victory on Tuesday, Wesley will take on the winner between fifth-seed Christopher Newport and second-seed Marymount. A loss would pin Wesley against the winner of top seed Frostburg State against sixth seed Penn State Harrisburg. All tournament games beyond the first round will be hosted by top seed Frostburg State University.
