MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – The Wesley College baseball team upended the Penn St. Harrisburg Lions 11-6 in a Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) road contest on Wednesday to clinch the season sweep over their conference foe.
Wesley scored first in the top of the third inning when Chris Seibert smashed a three-run home run to give Wesley the 3-0 lead.
Wesley got two runs in the fourth and three runs in the fifth to take a 7-0 lead over Penn St. Harrisburg. Deshawn Aiken scored on a Trey Mears single in the fourth. Two batters later, Mears came around to score on an error by the shortstop. Chris Bramble plated the first run of the fifth when he singled to score William Foster. Mears then cleared the bases with a double to allowed Bramble and John Joines to score.
Wesley tallied three insurance runs in the eighth. After a walk and two stolen bases, Mears came around to score on a wild pitch. With Seibert and Cody Dmiterchik on base, Mike Calvarese brought Dmiterchik home on a fielder's choice to the shortstop. Aaron Briggs plated Calaverese with a double.
Penn St. Harrisburg rallied in the eighth and ninth innings, scoring six runs but Wesley stifled the threat to score the victory.
Mears went 3-for-4 with a double and three runs scored. Dmiterchik and Seibert recorded two hits respectively while Seibert drove home three runs on his third-inning homer.
Alex Marrs earned the win in 7.2 innings of work. He struck out 10 Lions to pick up his sixth win of the season.
The Wolverines (13-11, 4-8 CAC) will return to Dover on Saturday to host the Christopher Newport Captains in a doubleheader. The first game is scheduled to start at noon.
