DOVER, Del. – Four home runs provided the spark for the Wesley College baseball team to notch a 13-4 victory over the St. Mary's (Md.) Seahawks on Wednesday to sweep the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) series.
Wesley tallied 16 hits and scored in every inning but the third.
After St. Mary's scored on a Wesley error in the first inning, Wesley responded with four runs in the bottom of the first. In the second inning, Mears hit a sacrifice fly to left field to plate Deshawn Aiken to make it a 5-1 game in favor of Wesley.
St. Mary's got a run across in the sixth but Wesley answered when Chris Seibert came around to score from second on a RBI double by Briggs.
Wesley plated three runs in the seventh when Cody Dmiterchik doubled down the left field line to score Barton. Seibet then plated Dmiterchik with a double of his own. Calvarese knocked a RBI single to right field to allow Seibert to score.
Mears smashed his first home run of the season and Wesley's fourth of the game in the eighth inning on a solo bomb to left center field.
