Mears named ECAC Division III South Player of the Week

DANBURY, Conn. – Senior outfielder Trey Mears earns Corvias Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III South Player of the Week accolades on Tuesday for the week ending on April 16.

Mears tallied a .556 batting average last week with four home runs and 11 RBIs to help the Wolverines clinch the No. 4 seed in the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Championship Tournament. Mears hit a home run in three of the four games on the week, scored eight times, registered four stolen bases. Last week, Mears posted a slugging percentage of 1.278 and got on base at a .609 clip.

At the end of the regular season, Mears led the CAC in batting average (.517), on-base percentage (.580), slugging percentage (.750), hits (62), runs (50) and stolen bases (38). Mears also ranks second in the conference in runs batted in (44) and tied for second in doubles (14). As of the latest NCAA stat rankings, Mears has the most stolen bases and is tied for the most hits in all of Division III while also holding the second highest batting average in the nation.

Earlier this week, Mears was named CAC Player of the Week and was a member of the D3baseball.com Team of the Week for the second time this season.

The Wolverines open the CAC Tournament on the road on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. against the third-seed York (Pa.) Spartans. The rest of the double-elimination tournament starts on Thursday at Salisbury University.
