Mears tabbed as ECAC Player of the Year; Mears, Seibert voted All-ECAC

DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) released their 2017 Division III South Baseball Awards and All-ECAC selections on Wednesday with senior outfielder Trey Mears announced as the ECAC Player of the Year and an All-ECAC First Team member while junior infielder Chris Seibert earned All-ECAC Second Team recognition.

Mears is the first player in program history to be named ECAC Player of the Year.

Mears led the CAC in batting average (.500), runs batted in (54), stolen bases (41), on-base percentage (.568) and slugging percentage (.772). He also ranked second in hits (68), runs scored (56) and total bases (105). As of the latest NCAA stat report, Mears leads the nation in batting average, runs per game (1.65), RBIs per game (1.59) and stolen bases per game (1.21). Mears also knocked seven home runs with 14 doubles on the year. Mears reached base in all 34 games and registered a hit in 30 of Wesley's 34 games. The Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Co-Player of the Year, Mears received All-South Region First Team honors by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and D3baseball.com. He was a two-time Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference South and CAC Player of the Week and twice on the D3baseball.com Team of the Week in 2017.

Seibert tallied 24 extra-base hits in 2017, which was tied for the best in the CAC. Seibert also ranked second in the conference in batting average (.411), RBI (53) and slugging percentage (.716) and tied for second in in home runs (9). Seibert was an All-CAC First Team honoree in 2017 and received CAC Player of the Week laurels on April 10. Seibert also collected All-South Region Second Team accolades by the ABCA and D3baseball.com.

The Wolverines finished third in the CAC Tournament with an overall record of 19-15 and a regular season CAC record of 9-9.
