Ferguson Named Preseason All-American

DOVER, Del. - Wesley College was ranked 15th in NCAA Division III and offensive lineman Matt Ferguson (Dover, Del./Dover) was named a Preseason All-American in The Sporting News '09 College Football Yearbook.
Ferguson anchored a Wesley offensive line that paved the way for over 200 rush yards per game and finished in the top 25 in Division III in scoring offense. An All-ACFC selection in 2008 as a senior, he will return to the team as a graduate student in 2009. Ferguson was also tabbed to the ACFC Academic Honor Roll and to the D3football.com All-South Region team last season.
The Wolverines also cracked the top 15 in the preseason top 25 by the publication, the lone Atlantic Central Football Conference on the list. Route 13 rival Salisbury was tabbed as a team to watch.
In addition to the Sea Gulls, Wesley's 2009 slate has several teams ranked by The Sporting News. The Wolverines open 2009 with the No. 14 Christopher Newport on September 5. Two weeks later, Wesley heads to No. 5 Delaware Valley. After hosting Salisbury on October 31, the Wolverines close the regular season with an Ohio Dominican squad ranked No. 10 in the NAIA preseason rankings.
Wesley finished 2008 with a record of 9-2 and won its fourth consecutive ACFC Championship and advanced to the NCAA Division III Football Championship Second Round.
