Wesley Earns South's Top Seed

COMPLETE BRACKET

INDIANAPOLIS - The Wesley College football team was awarded the top seed in the South Region of the 2009 NCAA Division III Football Championship.

Wesley is making its fifth consecutive trip to the NCAAs, winning the South in both 2005 and 2006 and advancing to the quarterfinals in 2007.

The Wolverines will face a somewhat familiar face in the opening round in North Carolina Wesleyan.  The two teams met in the 2007 regular season opener for both squads, won by the Wolverines 34-31.

Other top seeds in the tournament include Mount Union in the East, UW-Whitewater in the North and St. John's (Minn.) in the West.

All 16 first round match ups are slated for noon starting times on November 21.

In the South, the winner of the Wesley/North Carolina Wesleyan game will face the winner of the Mississippi College/Huntingdon (Ala.) contest.  The Wolverines also played Huntingdon in the 2007 regular season, winning 28-0.

In the other half of the South bracket, Thomas More hosts DePauw and Johns Hopkins travels to undefeated Hampden-Sydney.

Wesley enters the postseason 10-0, the second undefeated regular season for Wesley since moving to Division III.  The first was the 2006 South Region Championship team that finished 13-1, advancing all the way to the national semifinals.
