BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Wesley College's football team was featured in the Division III College Football Preview section of Lindy's Sports Magazine, a Nationally-acclaimed sports magazine that hit newsstands over the weekend. Head Coach Mike Drass was interviewed by Lindy's' Dominick DiRienzo on the Wolverines reaching the semifinals five of the last seven years and this year's team and key players, as well as the State of Division III Football.
Lindy's also released its Top 25 and All-America Teams, with the Wolverines ranked second nationally, sandwiched between 2011 national runner-up Mount Union at No. 1 and defending national champion Wisconsin-Whitewater at three. Senior quarterback Justin Sottilare was the Wolverines' lone representative on the All-America Team, earning second team recognition. A native of Columbia, Md., Sottilare sat out last year but passed for a school-record 38 touchdowns in 2010.
The Wolverines open the season on September 1 when they travel to Marshall, Texas, to take on East Texas Baptist. Following a trip to Salisbury, who was ranked 18th in Lindys, on September 8, Wesley's home opener is scheduled for September 15, when they host No. 10 Mary Hardin-Baylor, who the Wolverines defeated in the National Quarterfinals in 2011.
Birmingham-Southern, who the Wolverines will host on October 6, was also ranked in the Top 25 at No. 23. BSC's running back Shawn Morris was selected as the magazine's Preseason Most Valuable Player. In a preseason scrimmage, Wesley will travel to No. 6 Widener, who is led by Lindy's Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, quarterback Chris Haupt.
