GLASSBORO, N.J. – Wesley College's 11th-ranked football team fell at Rowan University, 24-17, on Saturday afternoon at Coach Wecker Stadium. The Wolverines fall to 5-2 while the Profs improve to 4-2.
Rowan returned the ensuing kickoff to its own 27-yard line and on third down, Bill McCarty threw a 71-yard touchdown pass to Frankie Goris to put the Profs back on top with just over three minutes left.
Callahan then drove the Wolverines down the field hoping to tie the score. At midfield on fourth-and-ten, Callahan hit Steve Koudossou on a 40-yard strike to get the ball to the Rowan ten-yard line. After a three-yard pass to Jeremiah Howe, Callahan was picked off in the endzone by Frank Ruopoli to seal the win for the Profs.
A sophomore from Absecon, N.J., Callahan threw for 220 yards put was picked off four times. Howe caught a game-high nine passes for 53 yards while Koudossou went for 90 yards on six catches. Jackson ran for 54 yards and a touchdown while also catching four balls for 18 yards and a score.
Defensively, Derrick Bender had a team-high 11 tackles while Jordan Wescott finished with eight. Sosthene Kapepula and Zane Campbell both intercepted passes and are tied for the team-lead with five apiece this year.
Withler Marcelin ran for 163 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 24 carries for Rowan.
The Wolverines return to action on Saturday, October 26, when they host Menlo College (Calif.) at 1 pm.
