ROTHENBURG, GERMANY – Former Wesley College quarterback Justin Sottilare ('13) has signed a professional contract to play with the German Football League's (GFL) Franken Knights, it was announced earlier this week. Sottilare is the second former Wolverine to ever sign with the Knights as Chris Warrick did so in 2007 and helped the team to a GFL2 South Championship.
A native of Columbia, Md., Sottilare finished as one of the top signal callers in Wesley College history. The 2010 South Region Player of the Year, Sottilare ranks fourth at Wesley with 6,673 passing yards, 472 completions and 74 passing touchdowns. Sottilare still holds the Wolverines single-season record with 38 touchdown passes in 2010.
Franken plays in the GFL, which is the top professional football league in Germany. Founded in 1983 as the Rothenburg Knights, the club became known as the Franken Knights in 1995. Franken also won GFL2 Championships in 2009 and 2011 before moving back to the GFL in 2012 where they have gone a combined 10-18 the last two seasons.
The Knights begin the 2014 season in April.
