Football Sits 5th in Preseason Poll

DOVER, Del. – For the second-straight season, the Wesley College football team has been ranked fifth in the Preseason Poll, it was announced by the website late Wednesday afternoon.  This is also the fourth consecutive time that the Wolverines have been in the top five in the preseason poll.

Defending National Champion Wisconsin-Whitewater received a unanimous No. 1 ranking, followed by Mary Hardin-Baylor, Mount Union and Linfield.  Rounding out the top ten were North Central at six, followed by Bethel, Wisconsin-Platteville, St. John Fisher and John Carroll.

Thomas More (Sept. 6) and Rowan (Sept. 20) , who Wesley will host in the first three weeks of the season, also received rankings of 22nd, and 15th, respectively, while Salisbury (away on Sept. 13) and Louisiana College (Sept. 27) received votes.

Wesley returns 18 of 22 starters in 2014 including All-American linebacker Sosthene Kapepula, as well as All-Region performers Devin Filliben, Kyle George and Steve Koudossou on the offensive side of the ball, and Zane Campbell and Aamir Petrose on defense. Junior quarterback Joe Callahan is also back after passing for a NCAA Playoff Record 633 yards and eight touchdowns in the NCAA Quarterfinals at Mount Union.
