WACO, Texas – For the second-straight year, Wesley College's Sosthene Kapepula has been named an American Football Coaches Association Division III All-American, it was announced by the organization on Wednesday morning. Kapepula is just the third Wolverine to be a repeat selection on the AFCA All-America Team (Mario Harris in 2005-06 and Chris Mayes in 2010-11).
With Kapepula's selection, Wesley has had a player chosen for 10 consecutive years which is the longest active streak in the Nation and ties Mount Union's overall record which occurred from 2000 to 2009. Kapepula is one of just two players this year (Guilford defensive back Satiir Stevenson) who were on last season's AFCA All-America Team.
A senior from Olney, Md., Kapepula has earned All-America accolades the last three seasons and leads the Wolverines with 89 tackles along with 11.0 tackles for loss, three interceptions and a pair of sacks, forced fumbles and fumble recoveries. Honored as the D3foootball.com South Region Defensive Player of the Year earlier this week, Kapepula has recorded 30 tackles in No. 4 Wesley's three Playoff victories, including a season-high 13 in a 41-13 win over No. 7 Hobart in the NCAA Quarterfinals.
One of the best defensive players in school-history, Kapepula ranks fifth at Wesley with 384 tackles and sixth with 49.5 tackles for loss. Kapepula also ranks in the Top five with eight forced fumbles and seven fumble recoveries and in the top ten with 10 interceptions.
Kapepula and the Wolverines (12-1) will travel to Alliance, Ohio, to take on No. 3 Mount Union (13-0) in the NCAA Semifinals on Saturday, December 13, at 12 pm. Fans can watch the game live online on ESPN3, listen by tuning into WDEL 1150 AM or follow by logging onto www.GoWesleyAthletics.com.
