DOVER, Del. - The Wesley College football team was ranked eighth by Lindy's Sports in the annual Division III Preseason Poll and quarterback Joe Callahan was named to the All-Division III Second Team featured in the publication's College Football 2015 National Preview.
The Wolverines finished last season with a 12-2 mark, reaching the NCAA semifinals for the sixth time in program history and climbing as high as No. 4 in the D3Football.com national rankings. The squad's only two losses came against Division I FCS member Charlotte and national runner-up No. 2 Mount Union.
Wesley will have to replace eight starters on the defensive side of the ball, but returns a solid core under the tutelage of reigning D3Football.com All-Region Coach of the Year Mike Drass. On the opposite side of the ball, the team will look to Gagliardi Trophy finalist Joe Callahan to lead one of the nation's most prolific offenses yet again in 2015.
After finishing second in the nation in passing yards and passing touchdowns, Callahan was selected to the All-Division III Second Team by Lindy's. In his junior season, the Wolverines' star threw for 46 touchdowns and 4,190 yards, setting a program record for single-season passing yards.
Callahan and the Wolverines join the New Jersey Athletic Conference and will open their season against NJAC foe Frostburg State on Sept. 12 at 12:00 p.m. in Western Maryland. Wesley posted a 2-0 mark against NJAC foes last season, defeating Rowan University and Southern Virginia University.
