GREEN BAY, Wisc. - On Friday evening in Green Bay, former Wesley College Football quarterback Joe Callahan was back to his old ways, leading his team to a victory. The former Wolverine made his first professional appearance, starting for the Green Bay Packers in their NFL Preseason game against the Cleveland Browns.
To Packers fans, Callahan's poise and demeanor under pressure was a pleasant surprise from a rookie signal-caller, but for Wesley fans who were watching Joe run the Packer offense it looked all too familiar.
Callahan was 16-for-23 passing for 124 yards and a touchdown for a passer rating of 97.0. He capped his first performance donned in green and gold with a two-minute drive that looked similar to many he conducted in Navy and White.
Starting on the Green Bay 20-yard line, Callahan drove the offense 80 yards in the final two minutes of the first half for a touchdown. The Absecon, N.J. native went 8-for-10 for 60 yards on the scoring drive and found running back John Crockett out of the backfield for a two-yard pitch and catch, putting the Packers ahead 10-5 with just seven seconds remaining before the half. The Packers held on to win 17-11.
