GREEN BAY, Wisc. - After an impressive preseason where he was the team's top passer, former Wesley College Football quarterback Joe Callahan was officially named to the Green Bay Packers' 53-man active roster on Saturday.
Last year's Gagliardi Trophy winner was signed as an undrafted rookie by the Packers and considered by many outside of Dover as a long shot to make the active roster. Very few NCAA Division III players make the transition to the pros successfully, but Joe made it look easy.
The quarterback went for 499 yards passing and three touchdowns in four games. He accumulated a passer rating of 88.2 over that span. Callahan's impressive preseason was enough to secure him a roster spot as the Packers' No. 3 quarterback.
The former Wolverine will have to privelege to be an understudy to perennial Pro-Bowler Aaron Rodgers as he learns the ropes of the NFL in his rookie season.
"The entire program is very happy for Joe," said Wesley College Head Coach Mike Drass. "We're so proud of his amazing accomplishment."
Callahan and the Packers will travel to Jacksonville to take on the Jaguars in week one. Keep an eye on the Packers sideline for a familiar face standing in the Green and Gold.
