No. 17 Wolverines Look to Build on Last Week's Win with trip to CNU

DOVER, Del. - After a 43-7 victory over Frostburg State on Saturday, the 17th-ranked Wesley College Football team is seeking to continue their dominance of the New Jersey Athletic Conference when they travel to Christopher Newport University to take on the Captains.

Dan Kesack got the start and played all but the final series for the Wolverines, throwing four touchdowns and running for another. The junior got the Wesley offense going and gave the team consistency under center. Jamar Baynard rushed for a score, but was held to just 33 yards rushing. His 3.0 yards per carry was the lowest YPC average for the senior running back since October 11, 2014 against Concordia Selma when he averaged 2.7 yards per carry. Alex Kemp caught a pair of touchdowns while Cappadonna Miller and Xavier Allen each caught touchdown passes as well.

The Wolverine defense limited the Frostburg State offense to just 240 yards of offense, and caused three turnovers. Connor Cox was limited to 9-for-22 passing for just 122 yards and the Bobcats' rushing attack was stymied and gained only 118 yards. Samer Manna led the team with 12 tackles and a sack while Roderick Caine finished with seven tackles and a solo sack as well.

This week the team will hit the road for the first time, traveling to the Virginia coastline to take on Christopher Newport University in another NJAC contest. Wesley trounced the Captains last season 44-24 at Drass Field. The Wolverines have never fallen to CNU, owning a 3-0 record in the all-time series.

The Captains enter this week with a 2-0 mark after earning victories over Kean University in their season opener, downing the Cougars 26-7, and a 45-27 win over Hampden-Sydney. K.J. Kearney threw for a CNU program record 355 yards, scoring four total touchdowns in the team's win over HSC.

Wesley will need to shut down Kearney and the CNU passing attack in order to earn the victory. Samer Manna will look to lead the defense against the Captains. Manna leads the conference and ranks within the top 50 in the nation in tackles per game, averaging 11.5.

Wesley and CNU will square off on Saturday, Sept. 17 with kickoff scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Live stats will be available, provided by the Christopher Newport University sports information department.
