DOVER, Del. - After finishing the regular season with seven consecutive victories and earning the automatic qualifying bid from the New Jersey Athletic Conference, the Wesley College Football team will host Stevenson in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday, November 19.
The Wolverines closed out their regular season with a 59-14 victory over William Paterson to earn a share of the NJAC Championship and the conference's automatic bid to the tournament. The Navy and White will compete in their 12th straight and 13th overall NCAA Tournament, earning their first automatic bid in program history.
Saturday's game will be the first meeting between the Wolverines and the Mustangs. Stevenson began their football program just six years ago and have earned their first NCAA Tournament berth by winning the Mid-Atlantic Conference automatic bid.
Stevenson finished their season with a 9-1 record, winning the MAC. The Mustangs' only loss came to Wilkes, falling 38-35 on Saturday, November 5. The only common opponent between the two teams this season was Delaware Valley. The Wolverines fell to the Aggies 21-14 in their season opener. Stevenson beat DVU 19-0 on October 22.
In the Wolverines' playoff history, Wesley owns a 26-12 record in the NCAA Tournament, including a record of 21-2 within the friendly confines of Scott D. Miller Stadium. The Navy and White have an 11-1 record in the NCAA Tournament First Round with their only first round loss coming in their first-ever playoff appearance, a 21-3 loss at Trinity (Texas) in 2000. The Wolverines have not lost a home playoff game since 2010, when they bowed out to UW-Whitewater in the National Semifinals.
Kickoff for the Wolverines' NCAA Tournament First Round game against Stevenson University is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. on Saturday at Drass Field.
