DOVER, Del. – The Wesley College football team was picked eighth in the annual Street & Smith Division III Preseason Poll. Junior running back E.J. Lee was tabbed as a Preseason All-America selection by Street & Smith.
In 2017, Lee rushed for 1,582 yards with 22 touchdowns and caught 26 passes for 252 yards and two receiving touchdowns. He ranked fifth in Division III in rushing touchdowns and seventh in rushing yards. Lee was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Offensive Player of the Year, collected First Team All-Eastern College Athletic Conference and D3football.com All-East Region Second Team a season ago.
Street & Smith's Division III article previews Wesley as the "The D3 king in the East will be a perennial power from Delaware, Wesley, where All-America running back E.J. Lee (1,582 rushing yards, 22 TDs) will be hard to stop behind returning QB Khaaliq Burroughs, who passed for 2,483 yards last season. Defensively, safety Cappadonna Miller is a difference-maker who came up with five interceptions last season."
The three-time defending NJAC Champions, Wesley has won at least a share of the conference championship in each year that the Wolverines have been affiliate members of the NJAC. Since 2005, Wesley is one of three Division III teams in the nation to have earned a spot in the NCAA tournament each year with the streak continuing to 13 seasons in 2017.
Wesley will open the 2018 season under the lights at Drass Field at Scott D. Miller Stadium on Friday, Aug. 31 when they host the Delaware Valley Aggies, who is ranked 10th in the Street & Smith Preseason Poll. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
