Dover, Del. - After a one-year hiatus, Wesley Football is once again back in the NCAA Division III football playoffs, a place they have been the last 14 of 15 years. The 12th ranked Wesley College football team and the only team in the East Region to be selected, will take on the Framingham State Rams in the first round of the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 23rd at 12 p.m. at Drass Field at Scott D. Miller Stadium.
Wesley clinched their appearance in the NCAA Tournament with a 42-7 win over Christopher Newport on Nov. 16 and finished off the regular season 9-1 overall, 6-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). Earlier in the season, the team traveled to their route 13 rivalry Salisbury, but took what would be their only loss this season, giving Wesley the number two spot in the NJAC.
The team missed out on the NCAA Tournament last year but advanced to and won the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship Bowl, 42-34, over Westminister.
This will be Wesley's 15th NCAA Tournament appearance and though coach Knapp has coached in every Wesley playoff game in the team's history, this will be his first as head coach of the Wolverines. "Continuing the winning tradition built by Coach Drass and his program over the years is a testament to our players, coaches and school. We are very proud to be representing Wesley College on a national stage" Coach Knapp.
Framingham state finished the regular season 8-2 overall and 8-0 in the Massachusetts State Colligate Athletic Conference (MASCAC). The Rams clinched the MASCAC Championship this year with a 40-20 victory over Bridgewater State, giving the team the automatic bid.
Ticket and media information will be available later in the week.
