Montclair, NJ. - The Wesley football team moved to 2-0 on the season with a 20-13 win against the Montclair State Red Hawks.
With just 2:29 left in the first quarter, the Wolverines scored a touchdown. Joe Delgado kicked the field goal and the attempt was good. The Wolverines went up 7-0.
On a Montclair pass, Mike Brewer intercepted the ball and ran it in for a touchdown. Delgado's field goal attempt was good once again, widening Wesley's lead to 14-0 going into the second quarter.
Montclair earned a touchdown on their first possession of the quarter. The kick attempt was no good. Wesley's defense was able to hold Montclair through the rest of the half, making the score 14-6, Wesley, going into the third quarter.
Wesley scored another touchdown with 7:44 left in the third off a 19 yard rush by Brady Walters. The field goal kick did not go, bringing the score to 20-6, Wesley.
In the fourth, the Red Hawks scored a touchdown and field goal with 10:34 left to play. The Wolverines were able to keep the Red Hawks from scoring again through the end of the game and defeated Montclair State 20-13.
Walters had 13 completions and passed for 162 yards, with a long of 23. Latrell McCants rushed for a net 79 yards. Brewer had eight solo tackles and Jay Holmes had a total of seven tackles for Wesley.
The Wolverines will head to Christopher Newport on Sunday, March 28th. Game is scheduled for 4 pm.
