CHESTERTOWN, Md. - A goal by Brooke Bennett with less than seven minutes to play broke a scoreless tie and lifted Wesley College to a 1-0 win over Washington College on the road.
Neither team scored in the opening half, and the game appeared headed for overtime as the teams went scoreless through much of the second half as well. But on the Wolverines (1-1) sixth and final penalty corner of the half, Brooke Tadlock and Amber Tank set up Bennett for the game's only goal at 63:14.
Sarah Johnson stopped all four shots that came her way to pick up her first shutout of the season.
The Shorewomen (1-1) controlled the play in the first half, limiting Wesley to just two shots and one penalty corner. The Wolverines stepped up their play in the second half, however, launching seven shots and earning six penalty corners.
Elena Nicholoff stopped five shots for Washington.
Wesley will look to stay in the win column when the Wolverines play three games at the Eastern Mennonite Tournament in Harrisonburg, Virginia on September 6-7.
