HUNTINGDON, Pa. - Second half goals by Stephanie Johnson and Sam Marconi lifted the Wesley College field hockey team to a 2-0 win over Juniata in non-conference action.
Neither team scored in the first half, despite the two teams combining for 14 shots. Juniata (6-12) took nine shots, but the Wolverines' (10-6) Sarah Johnson (Honeybrook, Pa./Twin Valley) had six of her seven saves in the win to keep the Eagles offense grounded.
Each team mustered only four shots each in the second half, but Wesley capitalized on two of theirs. Johnson (Camden, Del./Caesar Rodney) scored the game-winner unassisted at 48:10.
Ashley Kisner (Duncannon, Pa./Susquenita) set up Marconi (Haddon Township, N.J./Haddon Township) for an insurance goal with only 1:40 to go in the game put Juniata away.
Johnson picked up her seventh shutout of the season in the win, despite the Wolverines getting outshot 13-9.
In addition to assisting on Marconi's goal, Kisner had one of the Wolverines three defensive saves of the afternoon. Richa'd Johnson (Paulsboro, N.J./Paulsboro) and Amber Tank (New Castle, Del./William Penn) notched the others.
Abby Funk made three saves in the loss for Juniata.
The win gave Wesley 10 on the season, the 12th straight year the Wolverines have won at least that many.
Wesley concludes its regular season with another non-conference contest at Frostburg State (13-3) on Sunday, October 26 at 1:00 PM.
