POMONA, N.J. - Wesley College scored three times in the final 17:12 to erase a 1-0 deficit and claim a 3-1 win over Richard Stockton in a non-conference contest.
The Wolverines, who improved to 4-0 on the season, trailed 1-0 in the second half despite outshooting the Ospreys (1-3) 19-1 in the game.
Katie Mattsson scored on Stockton's only shot of the game. She redirected a pass from Gabrielle Palermo into the cage to give Stockton a 1-0 lead just 10:02 into the game.
The Wolverines dominated the second half, outshooting Stockton 14-0 and attempting 17 penalty corners. Wesley finally broke through when Erin Bailey (Rehoboth Beach, Del./Cape Henlopen) knotted the game at 1-1 on a goal assisted by Abigail Hill (Dover, Del./Lake Forest) with 17:12 remaining in the second half.
Amber Tank (New Castle, Del./William Penn) came up with the game-winner 10 minutes later when she poked home a loose ball to give the Wolverines a 2-1 lead. Sophomore Sheree Pleasanton (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) sealed the victory with a late tally just 40 seconds before the final horn.
In addition to their commanding advantage in shots on goal, the Wolverines attempted 22 penalty corners, compared to just three for Richard Stockton.
Sarah Johnson (Honeybrook, Pa./Twin Valley) played the opening 68 minutes in goal for the Wolverines before Elizabeth Groom (Bear, Del./Hodgson Vo-Tech) came on in relief. Osprey goalkeeper Debi O'Kane made seven saves.
Wesley opens Capital Athletic Conference action on Saturday, September 12 with a road trip to St. Mary's (Md.) for an 11:00 PM match.
