WAYNE, N.J. - Wesley's Danielle Tearl (Middletown, Del./Middletown) entered the game with zero goals on the season, but ended the day with three, including the game-winner in a 4-3 field hockey win at William Paterson.
The Wolverines (10-3) trailed 1-0 early off a goal by Chelsea Winkelspecht at 12:02, but tied it up on Tearl's first career goal in the 32nd minute to send the teams into the half in a 1-1 deadlock.
Kelsey Rella and Winkelspecht each scored in the opening 7:10 of the second half to give the Pioneers (6-7) a 3-1 lead.
Tearl cut the lead in half when she beat the keeper from the middle of the circle at 53:43. Amanda Fisher (Felton, Del./Lake Forest), who assisted on Tearl's opening score, tied things up just five minutes later on a long drive that bounced through off a corner by Amber Tank (New Castle, Del./William Penn).
Neither team scored in the remainder of regulation sending things into overtime. Just 20 seconds into the extra period, Brooke Tadlock (Middletown, Del./Middletown) took a shot, but Christina Auger's save rebounded to Tearl, who struck it home for the game-winner at 70:25.
Sarah Johnson (Honeybrook, Pa./Twin Valley) made six saves for Wesley, who has now reached double figure wins for the 13th straight year.
Fisher and Brooke Bennett (Milton, Del./Cape Henlopen) added defensive saves.
Auger had eight shots for William Paterson.
Wesley returns to action on October 13, hosting Salisbury.
