OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Kaitlin May's overtime goal lifted Stevenson to a 3-2 field hockey victory over Wesley College in CAC action.
The Wolverines (11-8, 3-3 CAC) held a 20-9 advantage in shots, but had to tie the game twice to send the contest into overtime.
Stevenson (6-11, 2-4 CAC) struck first on a score by Kelli Battista in the 19th minute for the only goal of the first half.
At the beginning of the 50th minute, Abigail Hill (Dover, Del./Lake Forest) dribbled down the right side and shot to the far post to tie things at 1-1 for the Wolverines. The tie lasted just over eight minutes, however, as Raechel Manly redirected a shot in front of net to give the Mustangs a 2-1 lead.
Later in the half, Stevenson failed to clear the ball and Nicole Hill (Pocomoke, Md./Holly Grove) fed Sheree Pleasanton (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna), who scored her fifth goal of the season to tie things at 2-2 with just 3:41 to play to send the game into overtime.
Then, in overtime, the Mustangs intercepted a clear attempt by the Wolverines and May took an assist from Sarah Bauer for the game-winner.
Lindsey Martin (Princess Anne, Md./Washington) and Amanda Fisher (Felton, Del./Lake Forest) had defensive saves for Wesley.
Kara Zimmerman stopped 10 shots for Stevenson, who also benefitted from a pair of defensive saves by Natalie DiPaolo.
The contest finalized the playoff seedings for the upcoming Capital Athletic Conference postseason. Wesley will now hold the fourth seed and host St. Mary's (Md.) on Sunday, November 1.
