DOVER, Del. - Sophomore Sheree Pleasanton (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) scored on just over three minutes into overtime as Wesley advanced to the CAC field hockey semifinals with a 3-2 win over St. Mary's (Md.).
The Wolverines (12-8) took a 1-0 lead early in the game on a score by Abigail Hill (Dover, Del./Lake Forest), who scored on a reverse sweep in the 11th minute.
The Seahawks tied the score at 25:51 when Brooke Masimore found the back of the cage and the scored remained 1-1 at the half.
St. Mary's then took the lead with a goal from Ali McIntosh with less than 11 minutes left in the contest and it looked as thought they might pull a first round upset.
However, with just 1:34 left in regulation, it was Hill again to tie the contest with her fourth goal of the season and second of the afternoon.
Then in overtime, Pleasanton took an assist from Brooke Tadlock (Middletown, Del./Middletown) in front of the net and knocked home the game-winner, her sixth score of the year.
Sarah Johnson (Honeybrook, Pa./Twin Valley) made a dozen saves for the Wolverines. Emma Lauhoff stopped six shots for the Seahawks.
St. Mary's outshot Wesley 21-11 in the game.
With the win, Wesley advances to the CAC semifinals to face top-seeded Salisbury at 6:00 PM on November 4.
