Wesley Sinks Marlins

DOVER, Del. - Senior Sheree Pleasanton (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) had two goals and two assists to lead Wesley College past Virginia Wesleyan 8-0 in non-conference field hockey action.

Devin Price (Milton, Del./Cape Henlopen) netted her first two career goals and Madison Leone (Dover, Del./Caesar Rodney) added a goal and two assists.

Danielle Tearl (Middletown, Del./Middletown) scored what proved to be the game-winner in the fourth minute off a penalty corner.  Abigail Hill (Dover, Del./Lake Forest) added a goal in the 14th minute before Pleasanton scored in the 19th minute for a 3-0 lead.  Gracie Daniels' (Princess Anne, Md./Washington) first career goal less than two minutes later gave the Wolverines' a four-goal cushion that they took into halftime.

Leone scored off an assist from Pleasanton in the 52nd minute and then assisted on Pleasanton's second score in the 59th minute.

Price scored the final two goals of the morning to put the game away.  Rachael Lawton (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove) assisted on Price's first tally.

Elizabeth Groom (Bear, Del./Hodgson Vo-Tech) made two saves in the first half before giving way to Amanda Hudson (Frederica, Del./St. Thomas More) for the second 35 minutes.

Wesley held a 36-4 advantage in shots, resulting in plenty of chances for the Marlin keepers.  Morgan Culler made 12 saves in relief after Kirsten Olson stopped just one shot in the first 18:31.

The Wolverines will look to make it three in a row when Haverford visits Scott D. Miller Stadium on September 7.
