Wesley Falls to Kean
Sophomore Madison Leone (Dover, Del./ Caesar Rodney) scored two goals for the Wolverines, but Kean's Olivia Trano's hat trick pushed Wesley to fall 4-3 Sunday afternoon in field hockey.
The Wolverines were the first to put a point on the board after Leone scored a goal off a corner and dribbled around the defense less than three minutes into the game. Nearly eight minutes later, the Cougars answered back, evening the score at one after Stephanie Soares' goal.
In the 14th minute of play, Leone scored her second goal of the night from the top of the circle off of a corner pass from Sheree Pleasanton (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna). In the 27th minute, Kean tied the score again with a goal by Trano, evening the contest to 2-2 at the end of the half.
Wesley began the second half with another goal less than three minutes in when Abigail Hill (Dover, Del./Lake Forest) picked up a rebound to put deep into the cage.
Triano responded by scoring another goal after ripping a hard shot from the top of the circle, taking away Wesley's lead for the first time of the afternoon. Soares was credited with the assist. In the 54th minute of play, Triano earned herself a hatrick after taking on four defenders and scoring the game winner.
Elizabeth Groom (Bear, Del./Hodgson Vo-Tech) started the game for the Wolverines, making one save. Amanda Hudson (Frederica, Del./St. Thomas More) came in at the start of the second half and also acquired one save for the contest. Senior Dana Keller (Dover, Del./Dover) made one defensive save. Kean's goalkeeper Erin Langan made seven saves.
Wesey looks to improve their 7-5 record at their next game at Rowan University on Tuesday, October 11th at 7:00pm.
