Wesley Falls in Overtime
DOVER, Del. - Wesley College's Sheree Pleasanton (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) scored two goals and assisted on another, but Rowan erased a 3-1 deficit in the second half to win 4-3 in overtime.
With five points in the contest, she passed current assistant coach Danielle Vincent for seventh all-time at Wesley with 76 points.
Pleasanton scored twice in the opening 24:17 as Wesley (8-6) built a 2-0 lead. Brittany Phillips cut the lead in half in the 28th minute as the Wolverines went into the intermission with a 2-1 advantage.
Less than three minutes after play resumed, Madison Leone (Dover, Del./Caesar Rodney) took a cross from Pleasanton and banged it into the cage to stretch the Wolverines' advantage back to two.
Rowan (9-5) answered with an Erin Bernat goal in the 48th minute and then tied it up with a score by Ashley Adams in the 62nd minute off an assist from Julie Cairone.
After the game went into extra time, Cairone scored the game winner in the 78th minute to complete the Profs' comeback.
Jessica Franklin (Columbia, Md./Long Reach) assisted on Pleasanton's first goal of the evening, while Danielle Tearl (Middletown, Del./Middletown) aided her second marker.
Elizabeth Groom (Bear, Del./Hodgson Vo-Tech) made nine saves in goal for the Wolverines, while Dana Keller (Dover, Del./Dover) and Samantha Russum (Felton, Del./Lake Forest) each had a defensive save.
Lisa Apt made nine saves for Rowan and Kelsey O'Neill chipped in with a defensive save.
Rowan held an 18-14 advantage in shots and had 11 corners compared to seven for Wesley.
The Wolverines are back in action at Moravian on October 15.
