Field Hockey Blanks Frostburg in CAC Opener

FROSTBURG, Md. - Madison Leone moved into second place on Wesley College's career goals list (67) as the Wolverines field hockey team blanked Frostburg State, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon in Wesley's Capital Athletic Conference opener.  Winners of five-straight, the Wolverines improve to 8-4 while the Bobcats fall to 4-8 overall and 0-2 in league play.

With her first of two scores today, at 2:11 on an assist by Brittany Blacksten, Leone tied Hall of Famer Nicky Benton (1997-00) with her 66th career goal.  Nearly eleven minutes later, Lauren Mears' pass to Leone led to another goal which put Wesley on top by two.

Wolverines goalkeper Sarah Daniels only needed one goal by the offense to earn the win as she stopped a career-high 12 shots on the day. Frostburg's Megan Grimm made seven saves to keep the game in reach.

Wesley hosts Rowan on Thursday, October 10, at 7 pm.  Fans are encouraged to bring canned foods to the game as part of Wesley's Annual Food Drive to benefit the Food Bank of Delaware. Fans will save $1 off admission with every canned item they bring to the ticket booth.
