DOVER, Del. – Despite getting out to an early 1-0 lead, the Wesley College field hockey team could not hold on as No. 12 Mary Washington defeated the Wolverines, 4-2, in a Capital Athletic Conference matchup on Wednesday night at Scott D. Miller Stadium. Wesley now stands at 8-8 and 1-3 in the CAC while the Eagles improve to 14-1 overall and 3-1 in league play.
Madison Leone put the Wolverines on top at 9:22 as she received a corner, dribbled around the defense and fired a shot past Emily Badis. However, Mary Washington scored three unanswered goals to close out the first half and went into halftime with a two-goal lead.
Twenty four minutes into the second half, Lauren Mears cut the deficit in half with a transition goal but the Eagles answered with a tally of their own just 39 seconds later to seal the victory.
The Wolverines travel to St. Mary's for a 1 pm CAC matchup on October 26.
