CENTERVILLE, Mass. – For the third-straight season, Wesley College's Madison Leone has been named to the Eastern College Athletic Conference All-Star Team, it was announced by the league office late Wednesday evening. A first team selection the last two seasons, Leone was also a second team recipient as a sophomore in 2011.
Leone led the Wolverines in every offensive category this season with 12 goals, eight assists, 32 points and four game-winning scores despite missing the first three games due to injury. A repeat Capital Athletic Conference Co-Player of the Year and Second Team All-American, Leone ranks second in Wesley College history in goals (71), assists (30) and points (172), all of which are in the top five in CAC history. Leone also played in the Front Rush/NFHCA Division III Senior Game in late November.
Also receiving accolades was junior Brooke Gannon, who was named to the squad's Second team. A defender from Harrington, Del., Gannon finished second in the conference with 20 defensive saves, ranking third in NCAA Division III. Gannon tallied her first career goal with a tally against Cedar Crest and recorded three saves in contests against McDaniel, Virginia Wesleyan and Salisbury. Her 37 career defensive saves in just three seasons is already a CAC record.
Wesley finished the season with a 9-11 overall record and advanced to the CAC Semifinals where they took No. 3 Christopher Newport, a NCAA Semifinalist, into overtime before falling, 2-1.
